GLOBAL COMPACT - COP YEAR 2020

 As every year, ALBÉNIZ, as active GLOBAL COMPACT member, reports publicly the actions implemented in the previous year in the 10 principles.

GLOBAL COMPACT - COMMUNICATION ON PROGRESS (COP) YEAR 2020

In June 2000, the U.N. launched a challenge to all the companies in the world asking them to join the 10 universal principles in ethical, social and environmental matters which constitute the Global Compact. The respect to these basic values is totally integrated in the day to day way as ALBENIZ works, both internal and externally, that is why we decided to join the Global Compact. We did it in October 2008.
One of the obligations that have the companies joined to Global Compact is to implement precise actions which contribute to advance in the respect of the 10 principles and to their integration in the company’s culture. Additionally, they must make a public communication to the stakeholders about the actions implemented and this is the reason why we make this communication in our corporate website. You can see the same information on the website of Global Compact (http://www.unglobalcompact.org).

ACTIONS IMPLEMENTED IN YEAR 2020

 

ACTION Nº 1

Concerned area: Human Rights

Declaration of support to the precise area:

EDUARDO ALBENIZ, S.A.U. declares its support to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and its strong commitment to put in place policies and actions to implement the principles 1 and 2 in order to integrate them progressively in the company's culture.

Concerned principles:

  • Principle nº 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights.
  • Principle nº 2: Make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.

Title of the action:

Update of our Quality and Environment Policy (version 26/08/2020)

Content of the action:

EDUARDO ALBÉNIZ S.A.U., faithful to its commitment to universally recognised human rights, has updated and published on its corporate website the document "Quality and Environment Policy". In the new section "Our people", it states the following in relation to its policy towards people:

Our people:

Motivated, highly skilled staff who enjoy their work are vital to the success of our family business.
We train our staff in order to get and keep their knowledge and skills fully up to date. In addition, we also provide all the necessary resources to ensure that working conditions fully comply with health and safety standards and all applicable legislation and social agreements. In our recruitment and assessment processes, we do not discriminate in any way on the grounds of age, gender, sexual orientation, origin or religion.

We expect both our staff and our suppliers to comply fully with all health, safety and environmental regulations.

This statement confirms the company's determination to continue to align its policies with Global Compact principles 1 and 2.

Expected goals:

Maintain and further enhance staff motivation to improve the social climate, reduce the risk of conflict, improve processes efficiency, provide a way for the personal and professional development of our employees and avoid any discrimination based on age, gender, sexual orientation, origin or religion in our recruitment and evaluation processes.

 

ACTION Nº 2

Concerned area: Labour Standards

Declaration of support to the precise area:

EDUARDO ALBENIZ, S.A.U. declares its support to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and its strong commitment to put in place policies and actions to implement the principles 3, 4, 5 and 6 in order to integrate them progressively in the company's culture. We declare specifically our commitment to respect the Labour Law and the workers' rights.

Concerned principles:

  • Principle 6: The elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.

Title of the action:

Updating and improving internal communication systems.

Content of the action:

Implementation of an internal communication system using large format screens distributed in different parts of our plant. This system regularly provides information on:

- All types of external news related to our activity and of interest to all ALBÉNIZ personnel.
- Internal information of interest to all ALBÉNIZ personnel.
- Communication of significant aspects and environmental objectives.
- Main production KPI's of our activity.
- Work shift calendars

Expected goals:

Improved social climate in the company based on a comprehensive information system that is easy for staff to follow. Ensure that staff have relevant and up-to-date information related to their job.

 

ACTION Nº 3

Concerned area: Environment

Declaration of support to the precise area:

Even if our activity (self-adhesive labels manufacturing) is not especially pollutant and wastes are not considered as dangerous for the environment, we declare our support to the principles 7, 8 and 9 and our strong commitment to put in place policies and actions in order to integrate them progressively in the company's culture.

Concerned principles:

  • Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges.
  • Principle 8: Undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibilit.
  • Principle 9: Encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies.

Title of the action:

Certification of our environmental management system in accordance with ISO14001:2015

Content of the action:

Adaptation and certification of our environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001:2015 Environmental management systems.

Expected goals:

- Ensure compliance with legislation and regulations with regards to the environment.
- Identify, prevent and control the environmental impacts generated by our company's activities.
- Establishing environmental policies that facilitate the achievement of environmental objectives.
- Positioning our organisation as socially responsible, and improving our relationship with our stakeholders.

 

ACTION Nº 4

Concerned area: Anti-Corruption

Declaration of support to the precise area:

EDUARDO ALBENIZ, S.A.U. declares its support to principle 10 and its strong commitment to put in place policies and actions to avoid all forms of corruption, in particular extortion and bribery, in order to integrate this principle progressively in the company's culture.

Concerned principle:

  • Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.

Title of the action:

Procedure for reporting situations contrary to the "Albéniz Code of Conduct".

Content of the action:

We have implemented the "ALBÉNIZ Code of Conduct Violation Reporting Procedure". Reportable situations include any form of corruption, including bribery, extortion, deception, fraud and manipulation. Such situations are already explicitly prohibited in our Code of Conduct. This procedure also includes a commitment by the management to protect any of our employees who report any alleged wrongdoing.

Expected goals:

Define a system for all our employees to freely communicate if they observe any type of violation of the ALBÉNIZ Code of Conduct or of the law.
